British National Formulary (BNF)

Be aware that free GP access to the paper version of the British National Formulary (BNF) has been withdrawn.  As it was not felt to be reasonable for practices or candidates to bear the expense of purchasing new paper copies it has been decided that, as from September 2024, the opportunity for trainees to have access to the paper BNF in the SCA will be removed.

In summary though, the decision was made in consultation with AiT Chairs, COGPED, GP Directors from the four SEBs, and the RCGP Medical Directors, and rests on the fact that it has always been the case that prescribing decisions required in the SCA are such that candidates at the passing standard should not need to use the BNF to safely manage the case.
